How company analysis works

Start with the business, then inspect its cash, obligations, and ability to withstand a difficult year.

Read the result in three steps

  1. Check the annual period and filing date. Refreshed data can still describe an old accounting period.
  2. Read the five financial signals. Missing data is not zero, and a lower score is not a guarantee of safety.
  3. Change the stress assumptions and open the source filing before drawing conclusions.

Financial pressure

The score combines five accounting signals. Each signal is scaled from 0 to 100 between the thresholds below and capped at both ends.

SignalWeightLower pressure thresholdHigher pressure threshold
Current ratio20%≥ 2.0×≤ 0.8×
Liabilities to assets20%≤ 40%≥ 90%
Net profit margin20%≥ 15%≤ 0%
Operating cash margin25%≥ 20%≤ 0%
Annual revenue growth15%≥ 0%≤ −20%

The overall score is the weighted mean of available signals. At least 80% of input weights must be present. Below 35 is lower pressure, 35–64 is watch closely, and 65 or above is high pressure.

These thresholds are screening assumptions, not calibrated default probabilities. Scores are withheld for unknown industries, SIC 6000–6999, annual periods older than 550 days, TTM period ends older than 220 days, or future periods.

Trailing 12 months (TTM)

TTM requires four consecutive quarters with no overlap or gaps and a combined period of 330–380 days. Flows are summed only when all quarters use the same accounting concept. Missing quarters or figures are not replaced by zero.

Balance-sheet figures are taken only from the final quarter end. Year-on-year TTM growth compares against a TTM ending about one year earlier, not the previous quarter.

Figures can include restatements available in the selected filings. Derived quarters that combine filings cannot guarantee fully restated historical consistency; inspect their components before relying on them.

Cash stress test

Scenario operating cash = reported operating cash − revenue × sales decline × (1 − cost offset) − extra annual cash interest.

The cash buffer uses year-end cash and a constant monthly operating burn. It excludes capital spending, debt repayments, acquisitions, financing, and changes in working capital. It is not a bankruptcy date.

Stress tests are withheld for excluded or unknown industries and stale reports. They can remain available when some unrelated screening ratios are missing.

Data scope and evidence

This release uses USD-denominated standard US-GAAP facts in Forms 10-K, 10-K/A, 10-Q, and 10-Q/A. IFRS-only, custom-only, and unsupported currency reports are not converted automatically.

Annual rows use one filing accession. Standalone quarters use matching direct figures or differences of compatible cumulative figures; the fourth quarter can be annual minus nine months. All components retain filing dates and source links. Conflicting contexts and incompatible concepts are withheld.

Directory listings are grouped by SEC company identifier, so several share classes may share one company analysis. Listing and broker availability can change.

What this analysis cannot tell you yet

It does not identify a crisis year or assign a bankruptcy probability. Debt maturity schedules, geographic revenue exposure, current prices, and valuation are not yet included.

Use it to organize research, not as a personal buy or sell instruction.
